• Memorial: Men of Royston: Royston, Herts. The memorial is located at Trinity and Priory Church, Melbourne Street, Royston and consists of sculptured cast group placed in the centre of the memorial and flanked by a tall flint and brick wall. Names on white stone tablets flanking the sculptured group. The sculptured group is formed by a typical tommy accompanied by the shapes of Royston ancestors who have done their bit on the battlefield and elsewhere. The ancestors are in white stone and the tommy in bronze. Figures are, left to right, Bowman of Agincourt, Medieval Knight in armour. Standing at the centre of them is the famous Elizabethan Royston scholar Thomas Cartwrigh. On his left is a sturdy and serious minded ironside who camped at Thriplow Heath, a soldier of George II and finally a soldier from Napoleonic times. Royston crow stands in the foreground next to the tommy.
