Location Information: The Loos Memorial forms the side and back of Dud Corner Cemetery, and commemorates over 20,000 officers and men who have no known grave, who fell in the area from the River Lys to the old southern boundary of the First Army, east and west of Grenay. Loos-en-Gohelle is a village 5 kilometres north-west of Lens, and Dud Corner Cemetery is located about 1 kilometre west of the village, to the north-east of the N43 the main Lens to Bethune road.
Historical Information: Dud Corner Cemetery stands almost on the site of a German strong point, the Lens Road Redoubt, captured by the 15th (Scottish) Division on the first day of the battle. The name "Dud Corner" is believed to be due to the large number of unexploded enemy shells found in the neighbourhood after the Armistice. On either side of the cemetery is a wall 15 feet high, to which are fixed tablets on which are carved the names of those commemorated. At the back are four small circular courts, open to the sky, in which the lines of tablets are continued, and between these courts are three semicircular walls or apses, two of which carry tablets, while on the centre apse is erected the Cross of Sacrifice. 66 Douglas Plowman, The Royston War Memorial (Royston and District Local History Society, 2006). Blunt, Frederick Herbert. Private, 2nd Bn, Bedfordshire Regt

He was the brother of Albert and George Blunt. He joined the SPecial Reserves in January 1914 and went to France in August 1914. He was shot in the shoulder at Ypres and spent 19 days in hospital before convalescence in France. In October 1916, at the Somme, he was hospitalised again as he was wounded in the right knee and suffered from shell shock. In March 1918 he was captured by German Forces.

He died July 30th 1918, aged 25, and is buried in the Cologne Southern Cemetary, Germany.

He was the brother of Frederick and Albert Blunt and was employed as a "boy carter" at Wicker Hall. He enlisted in February 1915 and went to France in May 1915.

He died July 31st 1917, aged 21, and his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

He was the son of Mr James and Mrs Mary Elizabeth Blunt, 7 SIlver Hill, Royston, and he worked at Heath Farm. He was the brother of Frederick and George Blunt and enlisted in January 1915 aged 15 and 9 months. He went to France in December 1916 serving with the Royal Engineers for a while.

He died July 13th 1917, aged 18, and is biried in the Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetary, Belgium.

He died November 19th 1915, aged 40, of typhoid fever and is buried in the Pieta Military Cemetary, Malta.
