Death Certificate states as cause of death - killed by a railway train but whether by accident or not there is no evidence to show. Information received from J.N. Dudlow, Coroner for Kent, West Malling. Inquest held 19th October 1872. S.E. Gazette. 22nd October 1872 reports: 'A man was found dead on the railway. An inquest on Saturday morning last before Coroner and a Jury ( Mr.James Youngman Jnr.) reports - The body of Mr. Daniel Duly age 58 was found on the S.E. railway, Bowbeech crossing by the guard of the night goods train at 1.40 a.m. on the 18th October. Mr. Duly started from home on Thursday in his usual spirit for Maidstone Fayre and was on his return home. Some neighbours also coming by the same train said he called at the Wheatsheaf, Bowbeech which he left at 10.00 p.m. He was afterwards seen at the crossing in a leaning posture at a quarter to twelve, this being the last time he was seen alive. Coroner for Kent, West Malling. Inquest held 19th October 1872.
